It's been more than 3 months since i last blogged... Had been real busy with work & stuff so can't blog... But i realised blogging has been a good way to keep my memories so i decided 2 start blogging again... However due to the fact dat some of my ex-students may be accessing to this blogsite, i have no choice but to start a brand new blog... i dun want them 2 start learning all the coarse languages...

For those who have kept in touch for me all these while, you would have known that i taught in YY sec for nearly 3 mths... Well, itz been a whirlwind 3 months indeed... i shall cut the details short... Don't wanna bore ppl out with my 1st entry of the year... Hahaa...

To cut the long story short, here are 10 pts as to what happened during my short stint as a relief teacher:

1) By right, i'm supposed to teach 4 onli 2 wks, but it turned out the teacher kept extending his MC, so I ended up teaching for an entire term..

2) I taught PE & English...

3) My 1st week of teaching was hell...
- The Sec 1 English class dat I'm supposed to teach are like monkeys who can't sit still..
- plus other than teaching, I have to babysit classes whose teachers r on MC. That's the hardest part cos u cant teach & u jus hafta ensure they kept minimal noise...

4) I'm the assistant teacher in-charge for volleyball... Though I never liked volleyball last time, I grew to love the sport after interacting with all my volleyball girls... I'm so proud of my v-ball gers... The won 2nd for South Zone C Division and 4th for South Zone B division... Never have I expected that 7 years later, I will be collecting zonal trophies.

5) The 1st day of school I was scolded by the cleaner for using the staff toilet, he thought I was a student... A few days later, I was told by a canteen vendor to not litter after ordering takeaway... She thought I was a student too~ Sigh...

6) I'm quite astonished to find out that there are so much office politics even in a career as noble as teaching. Guessed whatever occupation it is, in a society as results-oriented as Singapore, office politics cannot be avoided. I pity the students though.

7) Some of the most common & ridiculous questions students asked me are my age, whether I join gang, whether I am attached and whether I smoke... A few of them even call me ah beng teacher... Sigh, what's wrong with them?

8) I had my fair share of brushes with the Pai Kias of the school. Especially during the 1st week, when I gave some students of a particular class early recess, and the entire dismissal not happy & left the class... Ended up the next day had to resort to enlisting the help of the DM. My 1st major boo-boo, but I learned from it... I was from an Ah Beng neighbourhood school after all.

9) I learned alot from some of the teachers i got to know on a personal level. I have learned that teaching is a passion that you must feel for, and that you must love your students cos they will be able to tell your sincerity before they will open up and listen to you. Sad to say I realised alot of teachers have lost the passion as well as the love for students.

10) On my last day, my Sec 1C actually came up with a surpise farewell party... using their own money.. Plus they gave me a poster.. Meryl drew me a comic potrait... Amanda & Stephanie wrote me a card, plus my god-daughter Lynn made me a Bye Bye card... And Eugene baked me a cake... And my volleyball girls gave me a Goodbye Frame... Honestly, I would have teared if I were not pre-empted about the farewell party... I was touched honestly...

I did take pictures of some of the kids, the party and a recent outing I had with the kids during the 1 week break... Here it goes...

They just had a horrific ride i think...

I have to say my 2 and a half months stint as a teacher really made me consider teaching as a career... Even though there are times where I got to admit I dreaded going to class, over time I have bonded and grew to love all my kids...

I treasure all the memories that I had in my short stint there, and I will remember each and every student that I taught... But kids being kids, I know there's a high chance they will forget me after 3 months... Hahaa...

I am seriously at a cross road now in deciding whether to take up teaching... Most teachers that i have spoken to have discouraged me so far... I looked at the high turnover and it scared me somehow... A friend asked me if I did not meet such lovable students, would I still want to teach... Another friend asked if I wanted to go back and teach because of the students or because I really liked teaching... A teacher I spoke to says it is because of the kids that makes teaching such a worthwhile job.

There is no doubt teaching is a very rewarding career, but until I have thought clearly about the situation, I will not come to a decision.
